Job Discription :Dress switchers are responsible to do all tasks related to making and alteration of costumes of all kinds. The specifications have to be followed that are given by the designer. Sometimes, draws individual pattern or alters existing pattern to fit customer’s measurements. The key responsibilities are measure customers, using tape measures, and record measurements; Sew garments, using needles and thread or sewing machines; Measure materials to mark reference points, cutting lines, or other indicators;
Let out or take in seams in suits and other garments to improve fit; Take up or let down hems to shorten or lengthen garment parts such as sleeves; Assemble garment parts and join parts with basting stitches; Fit, alter, repair, and make made-to-measure clothing, according to customers’ and clothing manufacturers’ specifications.
Trim excess material, using scissors; Make garment style changes, such as tapering pant legs, narrowing lapels, and adding or removing padding; Repair or replace defective garment parts such as pockets, zippers, snaps, buttons, and linings; Sew buttonholes and attach buttons to finish garments. They have to use some tools such as; sewing machines, embroidery machines, sergers, seam rolls and buttonhole makers.
